Psychology Intern

Shawntay Grasso, MA, is a doctoral psychology intern at the Brattleboro Retreat and a doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology at William James College in Newton, MA.  She holds a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University New England.

Shawntay has experience working with adults with a variety of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, complex trauma, anger management, body image concerns, and interpersonal issues. She works collaboratively with clients to develop goals for treatment, making clients an active part of the treatment process.

Shawntay uses a psychodynamic approach to help her clients understand the underlying causes of their symptoms, along with techniques from a range of modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT) to support clients in reducing symptoms and regaining a sense of control and mastery in their life -- helping them utilize the skills learned in therapy.

This typically involves the use of homework assignments and reflection on daily experiences. Shawntay is passionate about assisting her clients in gaining real-world coping skills that foster peace and positivity in their life.
