Interested in using your lived experience to make a difference?
We are looking for individuals with lived mental health experience, current or former patients, family members, caregivers, and community members who are interested in using their experiences and perspectives to help strengthen the care and services provided at the Retreat.
CAC members have opportunities to share feedback, identify areas for improvement, discuss topics that matter to patients and families, and help ensure the voices of people with lived experience are represented in conversations about the patient experience.
You do not need to have received treatment at the Brattleboro Retreat to be interested in joining. We value a variety of experiences and perspectives.
If you’re interested in getting involved or learning more, please complete our CAC Interest Form here.
Why the Consumer Advisory Council matters to me: A message from the co-chair
“Throughout more than a decade of working in behavioral health, crisis intervention, and suicide postvention, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside individuals and families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. From supporting individuals experiencing a crisis to standing beside families navigating the aftermath of suicide loss, these experiences have shaped my belief that every person deserves to be met with compassion, dignity, and an opportunity to be heard.
I’ve learned that some of the most meaningful opportunities for improvement come from listening to the individuals we serve and their families. Their experiences, perspectives, and voices offer invaluable insight that cannot always be captured through policies, procedures, or data alone.
To me, the Consumer Advisory Council represents an opportunity to turn those voices into meaningful action. It is a space where individuals with lived experience, families, community members, and hospital leadership can come together to build understanding, strengthen trust, and help shape the future of care at Brattleboro Retreat.
My hope is that through genuine collaboration, we continue creating an environment where every individual and family feels welcomed, respected, valued, and empowered to have a voice in shaping the care and experiences of those we serve.” – Nelly Dixon, Consumer Advisory Co-Chair
