Anna Marsh Award Honoree Elizabeth Catlin

Named for the Brattleboro Retreat’s visionary founder, the Anna Marsh Award was established in 2009 to recognize individuals who demonstrate exceptional advocacy for people living with mental illness and addiction. This year, we are proud to recognize Elizabeth Catlin, whose enduring contributions have strengthened the Retreat’s ability to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to those in need.
More on Elizabeth’s contributions to the Brattleboro Retreat
Elizabeth Catlin served the Brattleboro Retreat with extraordinary vision, leadership, and dedication for over a decade. A longtime Board Member and Chair, Elizabeth’s steady guidance helped the Retreat weather some of its most challenging chapters, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Her commitment to the ongoing health and well-being of Vermont and the local community is evident in her leadership at the Retreat and trusteeship on many other mission-driven community organizations.
With clarity, compassion, and resolve, Elizabeth brought stability and strategic foresight through times of rapid change and uncertainty. Her deep understanding of the impact of mental illness on individuals, families, and communities has fueled her tireless advocacy for the Retreat’s mission to be a place of safety, support, and healing for those with mental health challenges.
Drawing on her expertise in finance and law, Elizabeth helped shape long-term strategies, strengthened governance, and emphasized the importance of sustainability. Her commitment to fundraising and her unwavering belief in the power of mental health care led to a renewed focus on the Endowment Fund and the long-term health of the hospital, so that the Retreat can continue to be a place of hope and healing for generations to come.
