Susan Stember Buhlmann, LICSW, joined the Brattleboro Retreat's Department of Outreach & Education (O&E) as Outreach Coordinator in 2013. In this role she is involved in a variety of activities including cultivating referral sources, attending professional conferences and trade shows, and supporting the Retreat’s community outreach efforts in and around Brattleboro and Windham County.
Prior to joining O&E Susan worked as a clinical social worker in the Retreat’s Birches Program, which provides partial hospitalization services for people seeking to recover from mental illness and/or addiction challenges. Before coming to Birches she served as the Program Coordinator and Supervisor for the Children’s Mobile Response program in the Behavioral Health division of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
A native of New Jersey, her ties to southern Vermont go back more than 30 years when she worked at the Brattleboro Retreat from 1980 to 1985 as a social worker in her first job following graduate school.
Susan returned to live in Brattleboro in 2009 with her husband Willy.
