Retreat Announces Changes to Medical Leadership

(February 16, 2017) Following the anouncement of Dr. Fritz Engstrom's retirement from his role as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the Brattleboro Retreat, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Mark McGee has been appointed as the hospital's new CMO. Dr. McGee officially began his duties on Monday, February 13th, which include a seat on the Retreat's executive team.

Since joining the Retreat in 2012 Dr. McGee has excelled in a variety of roles from outpatient to inpatient care and has taken the lead on a number of important initiatives. He most recently served as Medical Director of Inpatient Services.

Dr. McGee joined the Retreat after completing his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Vermont. He served as a staff psychiatrist on the Adult Intensive Unit (T4) until 2013 when he was appointed unit chief of the Adult Inpatient Unit on T2.  In 2016, he was appointed Medical Director of the Anna Marsh Clinic and later that year as Medical Director of Inpatient Services.

Recently he has devoted considerable time and energy to developing various strategic initiatives to improve access to high-quality psychiatric care.

Dr. Engstrom has worked at the Retreat for almost 19 years, 17 as our CMO. Under his leadership the Retreat has grown substantially and has met the numerous challenge involved in treating a more complex patient population. Happily, he will remain with us in the role of Medical Director of Intensive Care Services.
