Brattleboro, VT—The Brattleboro Retreat is pleased to announce its support of Kingdom County Productions’ Voices Project Movie, a film based on the widely acclaimed Voices Project theatre production that toured Vermont during the fall of 2005. The original highly successful and socially important musical was staged in thirteen towns across the state and was based on the writings of Vermont teenagers.
In addition to a financial contribution toward production of the film, the Brattleboro Retreat will participate in the creation of a study guide based upon the movie that will be available to schools, families and other practitioners who work with teens who may be experiencing mental health difficulties or may simply be questioning how to best cope with the stresses of growing up in today’s world.
The touring production of Voices garnered rave reviews from audiences, and was also the subject of a feature story in The New York Times.
Based in part on this success, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Retreat, Dr. Robert E. Simpson, said, “The Brattleboro Retreat is a leader in services to Vermont’s children and adolescents, and we are proud to be a sponsor of the upcoming movie which we hope will reach everyone in Vermont and beyond. Our adolescents face countless daily challenges to their health and well being. The Retreat is honored to participate in such a worthy endeavor.”
Bess O’Brien of Kingdom County Productions recently wrote to Dr. Simpson saying; “I so appreciate the Retreat’s belief in this project…for your generous contribution…and for supporting the lives of Vermont teens!”
Filming of the Voices Movie will begin this summer. Distribution of the film is planned for spring 2008.
