In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, communities throughout Vermont have stood by each other in extraordinary ways. In the wake of damaging flooding at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury, the Brattleboro Retreat joined with other hospitals and agencies across the state to accommodate displaced patients.
Here at the Retreat we now have 16 patients from Waterbury in our care and will continue to provide them with a safe, secure environment along with all their treatment needs until further notice. We are thrilled to be able to offer room in our facility for these individuals.
We are also grateful to those employees from the state hospital who have accompanied these patients on their jouney to Brattleboro and helped ensure a smooth transition along with excellence in the continuity of their care.
This crisis has brought out the best in so many people. It has also helped remind us of our shared commitment with people across the state to providing individuals with mental illness and addiction the very best Vermont has to offer.
