LGBT Inpatient Treatment Program

The State of Vermont experienced extensive flooding during Hurricane Irene, including flooding and the subsequent evacuation of the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury. The Brattleboro Retreat was fortunate not to have sustained any damage and is currently providing care for 16 patients evacuated from the state hospital.

While this emergency situation has required the temporary suspension of admissions to the Brattleboro Retreat’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Inpatient Program, we remain firmly committed to the LGBT Program. The Retreat is currently in the midst of a planned renovation that will create a state-of-the-art space for the LGBT Program.

We look forward to the LGBT Program opening in their new space in early 2012—or sooner if the current hurricane-related crisis is resolved. In the meantime, please feel free to contact one of our admissions coordinators to discuss whether one of our other programs might be appropriate for you. We will remain sensitive to your concerns throughout this period.
