March is National Social Workers Month

A Message from the Brattleboro Retreat in Recognition of National Social Worker’s Month

Social workers are dedicated to helping improve the lives of individuals and families from all walks of life. They work in diverse settings including not-for-profit-organizations, hospitals, clinics, schools, private practice, courtrooms, the armed services, prisons, shelters and senior centers. Wherever social workers happen to serve, and whomever they work with, the Brattleboro Retreat would like to acknowledge March as National Social Worker’s Month. We would also like to take a moment to recognize and thank social workers in all settings along with those mental health and social service professionals who fulfill similar roles, for their selfless efforts on behalf of others.

Social workers are responsive to a wide range of human challenges including homelessness, mental illness, family and marital strife, domestic violence, mental disability, poverty and more. As a result, our families, communities and our society as a whole is strengthened and enriched by their professionalism and dedication to others.

At the Brattleboro Retreat, our team of social workers helps countless individuals each year find the internal and external resources they need to live better lives. The approximately 35 MSWs on our staff help people through their specialized training in areas such as trauma, substance abuse, cognitive therapy, mindfulness and meditation, yoga and more. They lead groups, provide one-on-one counseling, design individualized treatment plans and provide structured and supportive after care plans. It’s a lot of work. But like social workers across the country, our team is also answering a calling. To them, and to social workers everywhere, we offer our respect and sincere thanks.

The theme of this year’s national celebration is “Social Workers Inspire Community Action.” To learn more, check out this link to website of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) http://www.socialworkers.org/pressroom/swmonth/default.asp.
