Julie Peterson is the Associate Director for the Southeast Vermont Learning Collaborative, a non-profit organization in Brattleboro, Vermont that provides professional development for educators. She served in the Vermont Legislature from 1982-1990, serving for 2 years on the Health and Welfare Committee and six years on the House Appropriations Committee.
In 1991 she became the Legislative Liaison for Governor Howard Dean and later served as the Chief of Staff for Governor Dean until the end of his term in 2002. Julie was a founder of the Women’s Crisis Center in Brattleboro and spent several years working on the issues of sexual assault and domestic violence in both Vermont and Massachusetts. She is a past Board Chair and current Trustee of the Brattleboro Retreat and is on the Board of the Rural Women’s Leadership Institute of Vermont which brings Afghan women judges to Vermont for leadership and judicial training.
Ms. Peterson has a B.A. from St. Olaf College and a M.A. in Women’s History from Sarah Lawrence College. She taught courses on Women’s History for Community College of Vermont and was a lecturer for the Vermont Council for the Humanities.
